Premium lignin from Miscanthus grass

High-performance bio-based lignin for demanding material and product development

Unlock new application potential with high-quality WEPA Premium Lignin derived from Miscanthus grass. Light in colour, odourless and with a chemical structure close to native lignin – developed for potential applications in industry, materials and cosmetics.

Our high-quality soda lignin, derived from Miscanthus grass, combines purity, stability and processability with a renewable, regionally sourced raw material base. Developed for sectors that place higher demands on bio-based materials.

The new gold standard for lignin quality

Lignin is one of the most abundant organic substances on Earth – yet it has traditionally been underutilised due to variations in quality and structure. WEPA Premium Lignin overcomes these limitations.

Miscanthus grass

As fibre experts with decades of experience in the fields of the circular economy and the processing of bio-based raw materials, we are constantly on the lookout for ways to diversify our fibre portfolio. By using Miscanthus grass as a raw material, WEPA is tapping into a promising local, renewable source of fresh fibre that offers numerous environmental benefits:

  • A renewable raw material from regional cultivation: Miscanthus grows locally as a perennial, high-yielding crop with a lifespan of around 20 years – and grows back to its full height every year – without the need for tillage.

  • Sustainable farming: It can be grown without the use of pesticides or fertilisers

  • Soil protection: Miscanthus is undemanding and does not deplete the soil. Its roots provide structure, whilst leaf decomposition supplies nutrients and improves water retention.

  • High biomass efficiency: Internal comparative data show a fibre yield per hectare that is approximately 15 per cent higher and an environmental footprint reduced by approximately 65 per cent compared with wood-based fresh fibres.

  • Biodiversity: The cultivated areas do not remain bare in winter and provide shelter for wildlife.
