In balance: sustainability at WEPA

Since its foundation in 1948, the WEPA Group has been a family-owned business oriented towards sustainability. Sustainability is firmly rooted in our corporate culture and is an integral part of our corporate strategy. Our holistic approach balances economic, ecological and social aspects.

To preserve and, if possible, improve our quality of life, this triad includes the sensible and efficient use of raw materials and capital, know-how and experience, machines and processes. As a family business, we have been taking responsibility for our future and for the generations to come for decades. We are aware today of the effects of our actions on the world of tomorrow. In the context of our sustainability management, we fulfil our responsibility in the area of conflict that arises from being a commercial enterprise with regional roots and simultaneously operating throughout Europe. This generates transparency, trust and added value for the entire WEPA Group with all stakeholders – from employees to customers.

Our co-operation partners

Our self-image as a sustainable family business has always included trusting co-operation with external partners.

Together we are involved in environmental and social projects and carefully select which partnerships support our holistic approach to sustainability. Through this dialogue, we are constantly developing further and can positively change areas relevant to us through our commitment. In doing so, we learn and benefit from each other – for the benefit of people and the environment.

Environment

Sustainable raw materials

For the production of hygiene paper we use only fair fibre. By this we mean recycled paper and certified pulps from sustainable forestry. In our hybrid product, we refine the specific properties of both raw materials into high-quality hygiene paper.

Environmental standards

Our hygiene paper meets the highest environmental standards. Depending on customer requirements, the products are labelled with the recognised labels Blue Angel, EU Flower, Nordic Svane, Cradle2Cradle, FSC® (FSC-C016151) or PEFC.

Environmental and energy management

All locations of the WEPA Group are certified according to ISO 14001 and ISO 50001. This underpins our commitment to environmental issues in general and our sensitive handling of energy resources in particular. We publish the emission values for our power plant at the Giershagen site (PDF).

Energy efficiency measures

As part of our energy efficiency program, we are finding ways to continuously reduce our energy requirements. We have also joined the Lean & Green initiative to reduce CO2 emissions in the logistics sector.

Supplier standards & audits

WEPA also expects a high degree of ecological responsibility from its suppliers. That is why we set standards, ensure that they are observed and review this with regular audits.

Dialogue with environmental initiatives

The WEPA Group maintains a continuous exchange of ideas with various environmental initiatives. It is our concern to realise ecological improvements together based on economic feasibility.

Social aspects

Corporate culture

Our corporate values of respect, commitment and sustainability are the basis for our daily actions and form the corporate culture of the WEPA Group.

Sustainable management

As a family business existing since 1948, WEPA thinks long-term. We face the challenges of the market and align the company with the future. We practise our corporate values in harmony with our striving for economic success. This enables us to make long-term investments and is an important component of our future viability.

Long-term business relationships

We appreciate the trusting and long-standing co-operation with our customers and suppliers. Good co-operation based on partnership is a success factor for us and helps us persist in the market in the long term.

Continuous improvement process

We believe that many processes can be continuously improved and that waste can be avoided. We organise our activities in this area in a structured continuous improvement process.
