Our partners
Strong partnerships with a
lasting impact
Trustworthy cooperation with external partners is part of our identity: together, we involve ourselves in environmental and social projects that support our holistic approach to sustainability. Through this dialogue we are in a constant state of development and are able to positively impact areas relevant to us. In doing so, we learn and benefit from each other – for the benefit of people and the environment.

To critically evaluate and further develop our sustainability strategy, we have established the WEPA Sustainability Stakeholder Advisory Council. This independent panel of five leading experts analyses our progress, provides valuable insights, and ensures maximum transparency.

The WWF is one of the largest and most experienced nature and environmental organisations in the world and is active in more than 100 countries. It is sustainably committed to the protection and preservation of the natural foundations of life. The WWF believes that recycled paper is the most sensible raw material – especially for hygiene paper. The WWF and WEPA are therefore partners for the transformation, and promote the use of recycled fibres in the hygiene paper market and in WEPA’s own mach m!t brand.

SUSTAINABILITY
We are a participant in the UN Global Compact Initiative, the world’s largest initiative for corporate sustainability. We have obligated ourselves to the 10 principles of the UN Global Compact and are committed to establishing them in industry, politics and society. The initiative aims to mobilise a global movement of sustainably active companies to create a more sustainable world.

CIRCULAR ECONOMY & BIODIVERSITY
We are an Impact Partner of the NGO Cradle to Cradle. As part of the business network, we use the platform to exchange ideas and best practices and further develop the circular economy as the core of WEPA’s sustainability strategy. The NGO aims to establish the idea of a consistent and holistic circular economy based on C2C and to network business, science, education, politics and society.

CIRCULAR ECONOMY & BIODIVERSITY
As part of the “Alliance of Pioneers”, we are committed to using paludiculture biomass from rewetted peatlands as an innovative fibre source for our hygiene papers. Peatlands are crucial for climate protection as they store large amounts of carbon and are home to animal and plant species. The alliance is made up of partners from industry, environmental foundations and research institutes.

CIRCULAR ECONOMY & BIODIVERSITY
We are renaturalising peatlands in Finland together with our pulp supplier and partner UPM. In many parts of the world these were drained to create areas for agriculture and forestry. By restoring a five-hectare area to its original state through renaturalisation measures, we are creating carbon sinks and biotopes for animals and plants living in the moor.

CIRCULAR ECONOMY & BIODIVERSITY
As a member of the non-profit organisation, we support the GUH [act together ecologically neutrally] standard. The aim is to reduce the ecological footprint of our products and convert any remaining environmental impact into costs that are then channelled into investments for the renaturation of ecosystems. In addition to climate change, land and water use are also taken into account – achieving a balance between utilisation and regeneration of nature.

CIRCULAR ECONOMY & BIODIVERSITY
WEPA supports the “Waste Separation Works” initiative, because waste separation is the precondition for a functioning circular economy. Waste can only be recycled and reused if it is disposed of correctly. With partners from the retail, production and waste disposal sectors, our aim is to educate people about correct waste separation, clear up any misconceptions and motivate as many people as possible to contribute.

CLIMATE & ENERGY EFFICIENCY
As a member of the initiative, we have demonstrated our above-average performance in climate protection and energy transformation as part of a stringent admission process. The initiative brings together cross-sector companies that play a pioneering role in climate protection with their consistent implementation of outstanding innovations, and who voluntarily commit to tangible and ambitious targets.

CLIMATE & ENERGY EFFICIENCY
The Development and Climate Alliance is an initiative launched by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development in 2018. As a member, WEPA supports the sustainable development goals of the 2030 Agenda of the United Nations and the Paris Climate Agreement.

CLIMATE & ENERGY EFFICIENCY
WEPA is involved in researching efficient process technology, digitisation and renewable energies for the paper industry in the innovation quarters of the “Modellfabrik Papier” in Düren. This is where innovation for the paper industry of tomorrow is created, and we help to ensure that Germany remains competitive as an industrial location.

CLIMATE & ENERGY EFFICIENCY
15 companies from the chemical and paper industry in North Rhine-Westphalia have joined forces in the energy efficiency and climate protection network. In this dynamic, self-learning network they exchange information on innovative energy and efficiency, and jointly develop strategies to save energy. The network is organised by PAPIER NRW and the German Chemical Industry Association.

LOGISTICS
We are active in the non-profit initiative “Lean & Green” to promote ecological issues in the warehouse and logistics sector and to reduce carbon emissions. For example, sleeve diameters, packaging sizes and pallet heights were adapted to make optimum use of the loading volume of trucks and approaches were developed in cooperation with our customers and forwarding agents to avoid empty runs.

INNOVATION
The future can be better shaped together – and for this reason we have joined the Maschinenraum innovation ecosystem. This alliance consists of over 30 SMEs and family businesses, and it is where we share our experience and work together on the challenges and opportunities of transformation.

Products & services
At home in people’s lives
Our hygiene products are an integral part of people’s lives – at home, in the commercial sector and in public facilities. This is precisely why we have the highest standards when it comes to their quality: from towel and toilet paper to kitchen rolls, facial tissues, napkins and paper handkerchiefs through to dispenser solutions, soaps and hand disinfection.
