Behind the tissue: Hans Fraikin

I started at WEPA exactly 30 years ago, before that I had already worked in the paper industry for over 10 years. A career spanning over 40 years in the paper industry - that leaves a lasting imprint.

30 years is unusually long for a paper engineer to stay with the same employer. But there were many good reasons that made WEPA right for me then and now. The trust and cooperation from senior executives and working with like-minded colleagues to achieve the same goals has been consistent throughout my career at WEPA. We always had great design options in my role as plant manager and this continued when I worked in a central function.

In particular, I was able to fulfil the greatest wish of every paper engineer, to start a new paper machine, not just once in my professional life, but four times at WEPA – and across various international locations. Through this work I have also made many friends across the group - a message to all my younger colleagues at WEPA that there are many opportunities across our international locations and I encourage everyone to take advantage of any chance that arises.

I am very structured on the job, both professionally and personally. I love order, aesthetics and I have a lot of time for the finer things in life. In addition to my interest in art, I listen to classical and rock music, as well as DIY projects in my home and garden.

It makes me happy to stand back and look at a successfully completed project and to have the feeling that not only have we achieved something, but we have also created something sustainable.
