Shared ideas lead to shared success

Together, many things are easier. This also applies to companies that want to save energy – like us.

For five years and two rounds now, the Energy Efficiency Network ChePap Rhein-Ruhr of the NRW chemical and paper industry has been in business successfully. Now we are starting a third round together with 12 other companies.

The goals are big and important: 14 companies from the chemical and paper industry in North Rhine-Westphalia joined forces in the “Energie-Effizienz-Netzwerk ChePap Rhein-Ruhr” a few years back – and WEPA is one of them. The common goals of this network are to exchange information on energy and efficiency topics on an ongoing basis and to develop measures to save energy.

The first success was already achieved between 2016 and 2018: alongside our network partners, we saved 158 million kilowatt hours of electricity per year. And there is even better news: between 2018 and 2020, we were able to add another 113 million kilowatt hours of savings.
These savings correspond to a CO2 reduction of 36,477 tonnes per year – the carbon footprint of 3,500 German citizens. This way, networking makes an important contribution to achieving our climate protection goals.

The companies in the network are also supported in their measures by external energy consultants. However, the great successes demonstrate one thing in particular: not only different companies, but also different sectors can learn from each other if the mutual exchange works well.

“ChePap”, the abbreviation for the network, is now intended to remain in existence for another two years, and that’s a good thing. After all, environmental protection and the reduction of greenhouse gases are not just goals for us at WEPA. They are tasks for all of society, the country, Europe and the world. Every building block counts – and together, many things are easier.

The initiative is starting the next round on 15 April. Energy Efficiency Network ChePap Rhein-Ruhr III, with 13 companies participating.
