WEPA Foundation

The WEPA Foundation is a non-profit and company-related foundation promoting non-profit initiatives regarding the topics of hygiene, ecological and social sustainability, life-long learning and family entrepreneurship in line with the goals and values of the WEPA Group.

The foundation was established by the Krengel entrepreneurial family to make a long-term social contribution beyond the family’s entrepreneurial activities.

Together for a better future

“The WEPA Group is a future-oriented family company with a clear purpose: ‘Together for a better life’.

Through the non-profit, company-related WEPA Foundation, we reinforce what defines the Krengel entrepreneurial family and WEPA as a family business and drives us in our daily activities: taking responsibility and shaping the future together.”

Our topics

Hygiene
Especially in this day and age, it is important to not only ensure hygiene standards but also to improve them. Cleanliness and hygiene are essential for a healthy life. The WEPA Group produces and sells sustainable and innovative hygiene products that provide a safe feeling of hygiene and contribute to the well-being of millions of people throughout Europe every day. Therefore, the foundation field of “hygiene” is particularly important to us. Through the WEPA Foundation, we will drive projects to promote public health care as well as projects to support research and science regarding hygiene.

Sustainability
The concept of sustainability presents the guiding principles for future-fit development. The greatest challenges of the coming years – besides climate change – include increasing shortages of drinking water and resources. To us, sustainability not only means using sustainable raw materials to produce and promote our products, but also taking social responsibility. We consider it our duty to act in a responsible and future-oriented corporate way. Through the foundation, we intend to fulfil this duty in a modern way, e.g., promoting non-profit science and research projects.

Life-long learning
Globalisation and digitalisation greatly speed up development and change across all industries. Technological progress can replace prior knowledge and render it useless within a year’s time. Those who are unwilling to continue learning are left behind. In this regard, education is our most important raw material. We promote topics with a focus on “life-long learning”. Those include science or research projects or also dedicated grants and further education campaigns.

Family entrepreneurship
Future needs background. Family companies and entrepreneurship form a supporting pillar of our national economy. Without the entrepreneurial spirit and the establishment of the family company WEPA in 1948, the WEPA Foundation would not have been possible in the first place. In terms of “family entrepreneurship”, the foundation is dedicated to research and science regarding family companies, entrepreneurial families and entrepreneurship.

FAQs

The founder is the family holding of the Krengel entrepreneurial family.

The foundation was established by the Krengel entrepreneurial family to make a long-term social contribution to four topics beyond the activities of the family company.

A non-profit foundation is an independent legal status that requires a benefit for the public – meaning that it pursues non-profit, charitable aims.
Non-profit character is established by the tax code. Its definition of non-profit character is based on a catalogue of a mission serving the public good.
The mission of the foundation is determined by the founder upon establishment.

The foundation is composed of two board members and a board of ten trustees.

The board of trustees is made up of five external experts regarding the foundation’s topics as well as five members of the entrepreneurial family. It advises and supports the board with its tasks.

Board: Ingmar Lohmann (Chairman) and Alexander Krengel
Board of trustees: Martin Krengel (Chairman), Dr. Stefan Gräter (Deputy-Chairman), Silvia Kerwin, Stephan Meißner, Patrick Schumacher, Dr. Dominik von Au, Andreas Krengel, Elisabeth Krengel, Kristian Krengel, Britta Lohmann

As a supporting foundation, we are always open to new project ideas.

The prerequisite for this is that they fit our thematic fields and foundation purposes.

The first step is to send us your project idea. The goals of your project idea must be clearly stated.

If we decide to pursue your project idea further, we will then ask you to submit a project application.

Any questions?

We are happy to help.
