The WEPA Foundation is a non-profit, corporate foundation that promotes charitable initiatives in the fields of hygiene, ecological and social sustainability, lifelong learning and family entrepreneurship in line with the objectives and values of the WEPA Group.
The foundation was established by the Krengel family of entrepreneurs in order to make a long-term contribution to society beyond the work and impact of their family entrepreneurship.
“The WEPA Group is a future-oriented family company with a clear purpose: ‘Together for a better life’.
Through the non-profit, company-related WEPA Foundation, we reinforce what defines the Krengel entrepreneurial family and WEPA as a family business and drives us in our daily activities: taking responsibility and shaping the future together.”
Andreas Krengel
In this day and age in particular, it is vital not only to ensure hygienic standards but also to improve them. Cleanliness and hygiene are essential for healthy life. The WEPA Group manufactures and distributes sustainable and innovative hygiene products that provide a safe hygiene experience and contribute each and every day to the well-being of millions of people throughout Europe. In this sense, the “hygiene” area of the foundation’s activities is particularly close to our hearts. Through the WEPA Foundation, we will drive forward public health projects as well as projects that support research and science in the field of hygiene.
The concept of sustainability is seen as a guiding principle for development that looks to the future. In addition to climate change, the most serious challenges of coming years include the increasing shortage of drinking water and scarcity of resources. For us, sustainability not only means using sustainable raw materials for the production and marketing of our products, but also that we assume social responsibility. We believe it is our duty to conduct our business in a responsible and future-oriented manner. With the foundation we also aim to fulfil this in a contemporary way and, for example, promote charitable projects in the fields of science and research.
Globalisation and digitalisation are leading to changes and developments that impact across all industries in a very brief period of time. Technical progress can replace previous knowledge and render it unusable within a single year. Those not prepared to learn will get left behind. Training and education in this sense is our most important raw material. We promote topics with a focus on “lifelong learning”. These can be projects from science or research or else special scholarships and further training measures.
The future needs a past. Family businesses and entrepreneurship form a supportive pillar of our national economy. Without entrepreneurial spirit and the establishment of the family business of WEPA in 1948, the WEPA Stiftung would not have been possible. In the sphere of family entrepreneurship, the WEPA Stiftung is committed to research and science with regard to family-run businesses, entrepreneurial families and entrepreneurship.

The founding body is the family holding company of the Krengel family of entrepreneurs.
The WEPA Stiftung was established by the Krengel family of entrepreneurs in order to make a long-term contribution to society, beyond the activities of the family business, in four areas.
A charitable foundation is an autonomous legal form and requires that the general public benefits – i.e. that charitable, benevolent purposes are pursued.
What is considered to be charitable is set out in general fiscal law. This defines public benefit on the basis of a catalogue of purposes that serve the public good.
The founding body determines the purposes of the foundation at the time of its establishment.
The foundation is composed of two board members and a board of ten trustees.
The board of trustees is made up of five external experts regarding the foundation’s topics as well as five members of the entrepreneurial family. It advises and supports the board with its tasks.
Board: Ingmar Lohmann (Chairman) and Alexander Krengel
Board of trustees: Martin Krengel (Chairman), Dr. Stefan Gräter (Deputy-Chairman), Silvia Kerwin, Stephan Meißner, Patrick Schumacher, Dr. Dominik von Au, Andreas Krengel, Elisabeth Krengel, Kristian Krengel, Britta Lohmann
As a supporting foundation, we are always open to new project ideas.
The prerequisite for this is that they fit our thematic fields and foundation purposes.
The first step is to send us your project idea. The goals of your project idea must be clearly stated.
If we decide to pursue your project idea further, we will then ask you to submit a project application.
